Experience comfort in a privately managed off-campus residence tailor-made for short-term stays. Shared with one or two participants, each room boasts essential amenities like beds, desks, and air conditioning. The facility, located approximately 30 minutes from UTokyo’s Hongo campus, features a kitchen or kitchenette, fridge, laundry machine, shower room, and toilet. Nearby, find convenience with a grocery store and a convenience store.

Meals:
Indulge in diverse culinary experiences in Tokyo. The school cafeteria offers meals at an affordable range of 400~700 yen, while sandwiches cost approximately 400~600 yen. Exploring beyond the university, expect lunch prices around 800–1000 yen and dinner between 1200 and 1500 yen. Conveniently, on-campus convenience stores provide light meals and drinks.

Japanese Language Course:

Eligibility criteria

Ensure your eligibility for the UTRIP summer internship with the following criteria:

1. Language Proficiency:
Required Language: English

2. Eligibility:
Open to Applicants from All Countries Worldwide

3. Educational Requirements:
completed at least one full year in a bachelor’s degree program by the time of application.
– Enrolled in and expected to return to at least another semester, quarter, or equivalent academic term in a bachelor’s degree program (or a bachelor’s-equivalent year of an integrated bachelor’s-master’s degree program) at a university outside of Japan after the UTRIP program concludes.

If English is not the first language, test scores on the TOEFL or an equivalent English proficiency test (such as IELTS) are required. Expired test scores are accepted, provided proof can be produced upon request by the UTRIP office. Individuals who have undergone eight consecutive years of instruction in English are not required to provide English proficiency test results.

Choose up to two hosting labs and specify your order of preference in the online application.

3. Personal Information:
Provide general information in your profile, including a current email address for communication.
Ensure the corresponding address is accurate for time-sensitive matters like visa application document shipments.

4. Personal Statement (700–1000 words):
Address your reasons for selecting specific research projects in the UTRIP program and what you hope to gain.
Highlight your qualifications for chosen research projects, emphasizing skills and experiences relevant to faculty requirements.
Express whether you contemplate applying to the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo after graduation, stating reasons.

5. Educational Background and Qualifications:
Submit a detailed resume or CV, including work experiences, responsibilities, and projects related to your chosen research topic.
Provide information on recent schools attended, courses taken, and any relevant awards.
Include official GPA scores if available; otherwise, calculate and explain the method in the “Notes” section.

6. English Language Qualifications:
Exempt if English is your first language or you have received continuous English-medium education for the past 8 years.
Non-exempt applicants must provide TOEFL or equivalent English proficiency test scores, including a scanned copy of the official test score certificate.

7. Supporting Documents:
Submit a scanned copy of the official university transcript(s) with the necessary details, including your name, university name, year of admission, course titles, grades, and credits.
